Drunk driver leads police on chase through city

KELOWNA – A man and his sports car were taken into custody Thursday after the driver led police on a high speed chase through the city.

Police saw the the driver of a red Ford Mustang speed around a corner from Highway 33 onto Gerstmar Rd. at 10:55 p.m. The car was traveling above the posted speed limit and forced several vehicles to brake abruptly to avoid a collision.

When police attempted to pull the driver over at a red light on Springfield Rd. the Mustang attempted to escape.

RCMP located the vehicle parked at a residence on the the 3700 block of Casorso Rd. where the 22-year-old driver was taken into custody without incident.

His blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit and he was found to be prohibited from driving. He faces a number of possible charges including impaired driving and flight from police. The Mustang will be impounded for a minimum of seven days.
