Garage fire being investigated in Kelowna

The Kelowna Fire Department and RCMP are investigating the cause of a mini blaze that sparked in the city yesterday afternoon.

The fire department's dispatch center received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a garage on fire in the 1800 block of Chandler Ave, at roughly 3 p.m., Dec. 4.

The first arriving firefighter reported a single detached garage and lean to with visible flames and smoke coming from the structure, according to a press release issued by the fire department.

Firefighters gained access to the garage and quickly extinguished the blaze.

The home on the property was vacant and had been for some time and the contents of the garage indicated someone was using it for shelter, according to the fire department.

The fire was contained to the garage but the cause is still under investigation. The fire department responded with three engines, a rescue unit and command vehicle. The Kelowna RCMP and bylaw crews were also on scene, according to the fire department.
