26 new B.C. COVID deaths over weekend; 5 in Interior Health

There were 1,846 new cases of COVID-19 reported in B.C. over the weekend and of those 322 were in the Interior Health region.

In the last 72 hours, 26 people have died from the virus, including five in the Interior Heath region, bringing the provincial total since the pandemic began to 2,081, according to a Ministry of Health media release issued today, Oct. 18.

Of the new cases, 737 were in Fraser Health, 212 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 406 in Northern Health and 169 in Island Health.

There are 4,917 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. with 360 people in hospital and 151 in intensive care while the rest are recovering at home in self-isolation.

As of today in the province, 89.2% or 4,133,755 of eligible people 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID vaccine and 83.4% or 3,865,096 people received their second jab.
