Vernon’s Boston Pizza closes due to COVID-19 case

A Vernon restaurant has decided to close temporarily after a COVID-19 case was confirmed at its location.

Boston Pizza, located on 32 Street, announced it decided to take extra precautions and will remain closed until Monday, Aug. 9.

The restaurant also said Interior Health gave the green light for the location to open tomorrow, Aug. 6, but it made the decision to extend the closure.

According to provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry's latest update from this morning, the surge in COVID-19 cases in the province, with the highest numbers being reported in the Central Okanagan, is fuelled by those between the ages of 20 and 40 who are unvaccinated or have only had one dose.

The latest daily case count reached 342 on Wednesday, a figure not seen since late May, Henry said clusters of infections were expected.
