Snowbirds stop in Kamloops for a bittersweet greeting

Many people in Kamloops were likely surprised to see Snowbirds fly over this afternoon as the iconic planes headed to Fulton Field for a fuel up.

The team is on their way to Comox for training, but decided to stop in Kamloops for a bittersweet greeting at around 2 p.m. today, May 4, nearly a year after the crash that killed Capt. Jennifer Casey.

"It's an emotional day for us. The team thought it was important to say a little hello to the city while flying to Comox," Canadian Forces Snowbirds spokesperson Capt. Gabriel Ferris said.

Ferris said that some of the pilots who were in Kamloops last year are part of the crew who stopped in today, and they wanted to show their appreciation for the support the people of Kamloops have showed them.

In a post to social media, the Snowbirds have encouraged Kamloopsians to follow public health guidelines and avoid crowding the airport during their stop.

We will do a short stop in Kamloops at around 14h local.
While the team is glad to have the opportunity to stop in Kamloops again, the stop is also bittersweet as it reminds us of our tremendous lost last year.
Please adhere to COVID regulations and don't gather at the airport.
