Boat sinks near Okanagan Lake Marina in Penticton

A partially submerged speedboat near the Okanagan Lake Marina in Penticton hasn't been recovered after sinking on Friday.

Penticton Fire Department fire chief Larry Watkinson says firefighters were dispatched to the scene around 5 p.m. Friday, April 30, after being alerted to a yellow speedboat sinking by the pier.

Watkinson says four people were in the water, receiving aid from nearby kayakers when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters assisted in getting the boat’s occupants back to shore and attached a buoy to the craft.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

“It’s probably going to be dealt with by the Ministry of the Environment,” Watkinson said regarding recovery of the boat.

In a social media post she wrote she could smell gasoline from the boat in the water near the tennis courts.
