Arson and attempted break-in at downtown Penticton business

Penticton RCMP are investigating an arson and attempted break-in at a downtown business early this morning.

Officers were dispatched to a business in the 400 block of Main Street around 4 a.m. today, March 30, to find a fire burning at the back door to a business, according to an RCMP media release. RCMP do not identify the business.

The fire was extinguished by members of the Penticton Fire Department without incident.

The front doors to the business were smashed, but police say it does not appear the business was entered.

"Officers are reviewing video surveillance and witness statements, and encouraging anyone who may have been in the area at time, and saw anything suspicious, to call us,” Penticton RCMP spokesperson Const. James Grandy said in the release.

Anyone who might have witnessed this incident or who might have information is asked to call Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300, or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
