UPDATE: Shooting in downtown Kelowna; police looking for witnesses

A man was shot in downtown Kelowna this afternoon.

RCMP say officers responded to a report of numerous shots being fired in the 1500 block of Harvey Avenue in Kelowna just after 12:30 p.m. today, March 29.

Officers found a man with gunshot wounds in a parking lot next to Global Fitness. He was rushed to hospital and police say his condition is not known.

Witnesses saw a man fleeing the scene of the shooting in a grey or silver car, according to an RCMP media release. A short time later, it was spotted on fire on Longhill Road.

Officers had blocked off a parking lot next to Global Fitness and people weren't able to get to their vehicles as police asked the public to remain away from the area for safety reasons and to allow officers to investigate.

RCMP say further information about the shooting is not being released to the public at this time.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has knowledge of it, surveillance video or dashcam footage of the area, is asked to come forward and speak with police immediately by contacting the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
