UPDATE: Kelowna RCMP confirm 5 stabbed at weekend bush party

A Saturday night gathering of Kelowna ended violently and five were taken to hospital with stab wounds.

A group of around 20 high school students and some adults were at Postill Lake for a bush party when a fight broke out just after 2 a.m.

RCMP has now confirmed multiple people were injured in the melee.

"Officers flooded the area and located five victims suffering from stab wounds. The two male youths and three adult men were transported to the hospital for treatment. The severity of their injuries is not being disclosed at this time," RCMP said in a press release issued by Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy, the following afternoon.

"An adult male has been arrested and is currently in police custody. It is not believed there is any ongoing risk to the public."

A witness who spoke under the condition of anonymity said it was an unsettling event and at least four of those injured are OK.

The Central Okanagan school district has been made aware of the incident and while he couldn't comment on the particulars, superintendent Kevin Kaardal said preparations are being made to help those who need it.

"The school district has a critical incidence response team and we will have been planning today with the school principal so supports can be put in place for staff or students who require it," he said.

Police are in the evidence-gathering phase of this investigation and are requesting that anyone with information call the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
