Accused in Clearwater murder case denied bail
KAMLOOPS – A Supreme Court Justice denied bail for a Clearwater man accused of killing his ex-wife and taking his three children hostage last Easter.
Crown Prosecutor Adrienne Murphy confirmed Justice Alison Beames denied Iain Drummond Scott’s application for bail Tuesday morning in Kelowna Supreme Court.
Scott was arrested after a police standoff outside his residence where he was allegedly holding his three children hostage. After his former common-law wife, Angila Wilson, 33, was found dead in her home, Scott was charged with first-degree murder.
The accused was initially denied bail in Kamloops Provincial Court. Scott applied for a bail review held in Kamloops Supreme Court earlier this month for Beames to examine his proposed bail plan and determine possibility of release.
"I'm so glad his bail didn't go through," Wilson's step-mother Rita Mate said. "He would have come here looking for his kids (if released)."
The information disclosed at the bail hearing is protected by a publication ban.
Scott is currently being held at the North Fraser Pre-Trial Centre in Port Coquitlam.
