Snow on its way for Okanagan, Kamloops

It looks like Okanagan residents will need to dust off their snow shovels today and tomorrow, but Kamloops may be spared.

Environment Canada says to prepare for some significant snowfall starting tonight for most of the Okanagan and continuing tomorrow.

It’s already snowing in the South Okanagan with a forecast calling for accumulations of two centimetres in Penticton today, Jan. 27, with periods of light snow for Kelowna and Vernon.

Penticton, Vernon and Kelowna can expect periods of snow with accumulations of two to four cm for Penticton overnight, and another two cm for Kelowna and Vernon. All three cities could see an additional five cm tomorrow, with a mix of snow and rain possible tomorrow afternoon in Penticton.

Kamloops isn’t expected to see as much snow with a 70 per cent chance of light snow today, tonight and tomorrow. The forecast doesn't mention any accumulation of snow over the next two days.

Vernon should reach a high of -2 C today and 0 C tomorrow, with Kelowna reaching -1 C for a high on both days. Penticton’s forecast calls for a high of 1 C today and 2 C tomorrow.

The snow is expected to give way to a mix of sun and cloud on Friday, along with a high of 1 C in all three cities.

Kamloops should see highs of -1 C today and tomorrow, and lows to -3 C before the clouds give way to a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 2 C on Friday.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
