Online map shows extent of construction in downtown Kelowna

KELOWNA – The Downtown Kelowna Association have released an interactive map that lists recently completed and ongoing construction projects in the downtown core.

DKA spokesperson Ryan Watters says the map was put online in mid-January as a way to help residents understand the extent of development currently underway.

“It gives people in the public an idea of how much is actually going on downtown,” he says. “The average person only hears bits and pieces like the Bernard Avenue project but a lot of people don’t hear about the other things that are happening.”

Watters says the map serves the same purpose as a cardboard map they were using to illustrate the construction projects.

“DKA and the City of Kelowna created this large map on cardboard cut-out that they brought to the (International Conference of Shopping Centres) in 2013,” he says. “The response to the map was pretty incredible. People were amazed with how much was going on.”

Watters says that after the overwhelmingly positive responses, the decision to put the information online was an easy one.

“It was a beautifully colored map, but more people can see it if it's online.”

The site will be updated whenever a new proposal gets approved or completed and can be viewed online here.
