Prepare for winter driving in the Thompson-Okanagan today

Motorists using mountain highways out of Kamloops and the Okanagan should be prepared for winter driving conditions this morning.

A Pacific frontal system moving across the southern interior has brought snow to the Coquihalla and Hope-Princeton Highways this morning, as well as to the Thompson – Okanagan.

Drive B.C. is not reporting any incidents on local major highways so far this morning, with slushy and slippery sections and compact snow reported on the Coquihalla and Hope-Princeton. 

Check with Drive BC for updates and changing conditions.

Compact snow, slippery sections, blowing snow and limited visibility is being reported on the Trans-Canada Highway through Rogers Pass.

Vernon and Kelowna could see between 10 to 15 cm before the snow tapers off this afternoon.

The two cities remain under a snowfall warning this morning.

Kamloops could see up to 5 cm while Penticton could see 2 to 4 cm.

It’s windy in the South Okanagan this morning, with wind from the south at 28 km/h, gusting to 53 in Penticton this morning, LIght winds are reported in Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops.

Another 2 to 4 cm of snow is expected tonight for Kamloops and the Okanagan.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
