Police say the mayor of Kamloops and the man who poured beer on him have made amends.
More than a year after Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson told police a stranger poured beer over his head at a local bar, the pair came to “a peaceful conclusion” through a restorative justice process, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release issued today, Nov. 14.
The unnamed suspect, the mayor and a police officer met on Nov. 8 and put the issue to rest, RCMP said.
On June 21, 2024, Hamer-Jackson said a man approached him at the Blue Grotto, a downtown Kamloops bar. They had a short conversation and the man poured beer on the mayor before fleeing.
Police released images of the suspect taken from the bar’s surveillance system more than a month later.
No details about the meeting between Hamer-Jackson and the suspect were provided, but police said the alternative approach focuses on “repairing the harm caused” by giving people involved a chance to “make amends” while accompanied by a police officer.
Hamer-Jackson was not immediately available for comment.
