TORONTO — Nathan Rourke has his first All-CFL team selection.

The B.C Lions quarterback was named a league all-star Wednesday in voting by the Football Reporters of Canada, nine CFL head coaches and fans.

Rourke, of Victoria, finished second in CFL passing yards (5,290) and touchdowns (31) but tops in 300-yard games (12) and rushing among quarterbacks (564 yards, 9.2-yard average, 10 touchdowns). B.C. ended its regular season with six straight wins before dispatching the Calgary Stampeders 33-30 in the West Division semifinal last Saturday.

The Lions visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Western final Saturday.

Rourke was among five Lions named to the team, tied with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for second-most behind Saskatchewan (nine).

Joining Rourke on the squad are receivers Keon Hatcher Sr. (CFL’s top receiver with 102 catches and 1,688 yards with nine TDs) and Justin McInnis, tackle Jarrell Broxton and defensive end Mathieu Betts (league-high 15 sacks). Hatcher, McInnis and Betts were second-time nominees while this was Broxton’s first.

Saskatchewan placed five players on the defensive squad, including tackle Micah Johnston (fifth nomination). Defensive back Rolan Milligan Jr. and linebacker C.J. Reavis both earned a second nod while linebacker Jameer Thurman and cornerback Tevaughn Campbell were first-time selections.

Receiver KeeSean Johnson, centre Logan Ferland, guard Jacob Brammer and tackle Jermarcus Hardrick were Saskatchewan’s offensive selections. Hardrick was named for a third time while Ferland’s nomination was his second.

Thurman and Brammer are first-time league all-stars.

Veteran guard Brandon Revenberg earned his fifth all-star nomination to lead the Ticats. Receiver Kenny Lawler (second, first with Hamilton), defensive end Julian Howsare (second in CFL with 13 sacks), cornerback Jamal Peters and safety Stavros Katsantonis (both tied for league lead with six interceptions) were the other selections.

Peters becomes a second-time all-star while this was the first selection for both Howsare and Katsantonis.

Calgary placed three players on the squad: CFL rushing leader Dedrick Mills at halfback, defensive tackle Jaylon Hutchings and punter Mark Vassett. All were first-time nominees.

Montreal had two players: receiver Tyler Snead and linebacker Tyrice Beverette; as did Winnipeg with returner Trey Vaval and defensive back Evan Holm.

Veteran Toronto kicker Lirim Hajrullahu rounded out the squad with his first-ever nomination.
