Halloween is approaching and creative residents in Kamloops and the Okanagan are lifting spooky spirits with elaborate displays that include lights, inflatable pumpkins and giant creepy skeletons.

Some Halloween lovers spend weeks building displays and with new pieces every year to add to the festive fun leading up to Halloween night.

The celebration of Halloween has grown over the years. According to a 2024 Leger Report on Halloween habits among Canadians, 83% of children planned to go trick-or-treating last year and half of Canadians planned to hand out candy.

On average, Canadians spend $67.65 on costumes, candy, decorations and other Halloween-related expenses with this average increasing to $121.57 among parents.

In BC, results were divided on total expenditures for Halloween including candy, costumes and decorating. The majority of 27% said they wouldn’t spend anything on the holiday, while 25% said they’d spend more than $100.

Roughly one third of British Columbians decorate their houses for Halloween.

The most popular outdoor Halloween decorations purchased through Amazon this year include six foot tall Halloween inflatable pumpkins, lit up outdoor spider webs, hanging skeletons and spooky life-sized animatronics.
