COVID-19 exposure reported at West Kelowna high school

Another Central Okanagan high school is reporting a potential COVID-19 exposure.

Mount Boucherie Secondary in West Kelowna listed a potential exposure Nov. 9 and 10, according to Interior Health's school exposure tracker.

In the Central Okanagan, 13 schools have had possible exposures within the last two weeks.

An exposure at Mission Hill Elementary School in Vernon was also recorded recently, with potential exposure dates being Nov. 9 and 10.

NorKam Secondary in Kamloops also had a potential exposure, Nov. 6.

“Schools are a reflection of what's happening in our community,” Dr. Bonnie Henry said at a press conference this week.

“So we're looking at what measures can help us reduce risk in our communities and therefore protect our schools… we can see that transmission rates are less in schools than they are in other parts of our communities. (It is) also incredibly important for families and for children to have in-person in class, but we're looking at all of our options there are a whole bunch of things that are happening.”

Central Okanagan Public Schools superintendent Kevin Kaardal said in a previous interview with iNFOnews that the school district continues to monitor the situation.

“Currently, School Safety and Pandemic Plans are working. We will continue our work with Interior Health and the Medical Officers and take direction from them,” he said.
