BURNABY — Homicide investigators say they suspect the deadly shooting of a man in Burnaby was a targeted gang killing.
RCMP say officers were called to north Burnaby, 13 kilometres from Vancouver, on Wednesday afternoon after reports of shots fired.
They found one man dead at the scene, then responded to a vehicle fire about 15 minutes later in south Burnaby.
Police say the 34-year-old victim, Shahaib Abasi, was known to them, and initial information suggests the shooting may be linked to the ongoing gang conflict in B.C.
Investigators from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team are looking at whether the shooting and fire were connected.
Police say they are looking to speak with witnesses to either the shooting or the vehicle fire.
