iN NUMBERS: One of the hottest summers on record for Kamloops, Okanagan

Hopefully you’re inside somewhere with air conditioning, or even better, heading down to the beach with some cold drinks. It has been a hot and dry summer for Kamloops and the Okanagan, and August was especially brutal.

Here are the numbers for August and the summer so far:

  • 35.7: Degrees was the hottest day in Kelowna last month, Aug. 26.
  • 1: Other August was hotter than this one in the Central Okanagan and that was in 2022.
  • 11.5: Millimetres of rain fell in Kelowna in August, which is 35 per cent of normal.
  • 22.3: Degrees was the mean temperature in Vernon in August, the second hottest on record.
  • 23.6: Degrees was the mean temperature in Kamloops in August, the third hottest on record.
  • 22.5: Degrees was the mean temperature in Penticton in August, 1.9 degrees above normal.
  • 3: Summers have been hotter than this one in the Okanagan since Environment Canada started recording weather data more than a century ago.
  • 44.9: Millimetres of rain fell in Penticton this summer, the normal is 97 mm.
  • 4: Regions in B.C. have heat warnings for this week, the North Coast, the Fraser Canyon and the North and South Thompson.
  • 2: Days in a row where the high is expected to hit 35 C and the overnight low is more than 18 C which triggers a heat warning.
