ZURICH — Edmonton’s Marco Arop raced to a third-place finish in the men’s 800 metres Thursday at the Diamond League final.
Arop finished in one minute 42.57 seconds.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya won the Diamond League title in 1:42.37, followed by Britain’s Max Burgin in 1:42.42.
Arop is the reigning world champion in the event and took silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He also won all three 800 races at this year’s inaugural Grand Slam Track circuit.
Earlier Thursday, Arop was named to Canada’s team for the world athletics championships next month in Tokyo, where he will be one of four defending champions on the squad.
