Vernon RCMP have confirmed the identity of the person who died in a house fire in Coldstream last week.
Police haven’t publicly shared the identity of the victim, who was inside the home at the time of the fire, but the family has been notified, according to am RCMP press release.
After the fire, someone living in the home was unaccounted for.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and our thoughts are with the family and everyone affected during this incredibly difficult time,” Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were called to assist the Coldstream Fire Department with a structure fire on Kalview Drive around 2:30 p.m. on July 24.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames and found what are suspected to be human remains during an initial examination inside.
Fire investigators and the BC Coroners Service are still investigating but don’t suspect a crime was committed.
