iN NUMBERS: Penticton City Councillor James Miller

Penticton city councillor James Miller is still awaiting trial on historic sex crimes charges.

He remains an innocent man.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t consequences — and costs to taxpayers as Miller stubbornly collects a paycheque for a job he’s on paid leave for. Just in case you have forgotten, or haven’t been keeping score, we tallied up a few numbers.

Here are the figures:

  • 342: Days James Miller has been on paid leave from Penticton City Council.
  • 28,524: Dollars was Miller’s salary for 2024.
  • 35: Years ago is when the alleged sex crimes took place.
  • 11: Sex crime accusations have been levied at Miller. He hasn’t been convicted of any of them.
  • 14: More months Miller plans on sitting on Penticton City Council.
  • 1,194: Signatures on the online petition asking Miller to resign.
  • 144: Days until Miller’s next scheduled court date.
  • 2: How many byelections the City of Penticton will already have this year, both opportunities Penticton could have added Miller’s position and save taxpayers the cost of a third byelection.
  • 2: Jobs he still has while on trial, city councillor and newspaper editor.
  • 1: Case prior Miller faced similar accusations and the case was dismissed.
  • 1: Opportunity for Miller to do the right thing and resign. If he’s not convicted, he could always run again.
