Smoky conditions in Kamloops expected to persist until Wednesday

It may be a couple of days before Kamloops residents can expect any relief from the oppressive smoke spreading into the region from American wildfires.

Environment Canada says the mix of sun and cloud forecast for today, Sept. 14, may be obscured by widespread smoke, which is expected to continue overnight. A special air quality statement has been issued.

Winds are expected to be east at 20 km/h in this afternoon with a high of 26 Celsius and a low of 14 C.

Clearing conditions are expected Tuesday, but again with widespread smoke, which is expected to linger overnight. Tuesday’s high should reach 27 C with a low to 12 C.

Indications are the smoke should clear for Wednesday with sunny skies, a high of 28 C and a low of 13 C.

More sun is in store for Thursday with a high of 29 C and a low of 14 C.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday should see a mix of sun and cloud, with temperatures falling back to normal highs for this time of year.

Friday’s high of 27 C and low of 14 C is expected to be followed by a high of 23 C on Saturday and 22 C on Sunday.

Kamloops’s seasonal normal temperatures for this time of year are highs of 22 C and a lows of 8 C.

Steve Arstad

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
