‘Pro Trump’ spray painted on vandalized pickup with Texas plates in Victoria

A Vancouver Island man is speaking out after his father's truck was vandalized with spray painted 'Pro Trump' tags.

Jonathan Vidalin reported on Twitter today, Sept. 10, that while staying in Victoria his father's truck was attacked by vandals.

The graffiti was spray painted on the pickup, the windshield was smashed and the Texas licence plates were stolen.

"He has been here for almost three months visiting family and helping us out. My wife and I just had a baby – his first grandchild and we just moved. He did his two-week quarantine. He is Canadian and can’t even vote for or against Trump," he tweeted.

The driver isn't the only one in the province who may have been harassed for having out-of-province plates.

A Kelowna UBC Okanagan student put up a disclaimer for having Washington plates on his truck after he was followed home one night.

In August, a radio host tweeted his frustrations at Premier John Horgan after his window was smashed while staying in Kamloops. Horgan had previously suggested those with out of province plates should take the bus or ride a bicycle to avoid being harassed.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has taken a softer approach, encouraging residents to be kind and understanding to those with out-of-province plates during the pandemic.
