Hit and run suspect arrested for impaired driving
KELOWNA – A 49-year-old Kelowna woman is facing possible impaired driving charges after a reported hit and run on Springfield Road Friday night.
RCMP received a call at 10:25 p.m. that a woman had apparently been rear-ended by a driver of a brown Chevy Cavalier she believed was impaired.
Police located the vehicle on the 1800 block of Parkinson Way and took the woman to the Kelowna detachment when they noticed signs of impairment.
RCMP spokesperson Const. Kris Clark says the woman refused to provide a breath sample when asked.
“I don’t think many people understand that failing or refusing to provide a breath sample carries the same penalty upon conviction as impaired driving,” says Clark. “Essentially, you are obligated, as soon as the breath demand is made, to provide a breath sample.”
The woman faces potential charges of impaired driving and failure or refusal to provide a breath sample and was released on a Promise to Appear for Court.
