UPDATE: One person killed in head-on crash on Highway 1 near Salmon Arm

SALMON ARM – One person has been killed in a head-on crash on Highway 1 near Salmon Arm.

RCMP say a car and a commercial vehicle were travelling in opposite directions, and they collided on a curved stretch of the highway Sunday morning.

Collision analyst Sgt. Brian Nightingale says the conditions on the snow-covered highway are "treacherous."

He could not say if the victim was a driver or a passenger, or which vehicle they were travelling in.

Nightingale says Mounties hope to have traffic open to a single lane later Sunday.

Highway 1 was open 10 kilometres west of Salmon Arm to single-lane alternating traffic as of Sunday afternoon.
