Former Kamloops Blazer Jarome Iginla inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame

Former Kamloops Blazer Jarome Iginla has been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The Hockey Hall of Fame selection committee voted Iginla into the iconic collection of hockey legends in Toronto today, June 24.

Iginla was eligible for his first time this year. He has played 1,554 NHL games and has scored 625 goals during his career with the National Hockey League, according to his biography.

Before winning two gold medals at the Olympics and winning a handful of various awards with the NHL, he played for the WHL's Kamloops Blazers where he helped the team win two Memorial Cups during his three seasons between 1993 to 1996 and scored the WHL Player of the Year title for his 1995 to 1996 season.

Iginla then went on the play for the Calgary Flames for more than ten years. After that he played for Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings.

In an interview on TSN after being chosen as a Hockey Hall of Famer, Iginla mentioned his fondness of playing with the Kamloops Blazers.

Iginla joins former Kamloops Blazers Mark Recchi and Scott Niedermayer in the hall of fame.

Also entering the hall this year is Vernon-born Ken Holland.

Holland signed in 1980 with the Hartford Whalers and in 1983 with the Detroit Red Wings. After his stint on the ice, he went on to be a scout with the Detroit Red Wings, according to his biography on NHL.com. He then spent three years as the assistant general manager with the team before being named the general manager in 1997. During his time there, the Red Wings won 1,044 combined regular season and playoff games, more than any other NHL franchise.

He stayed with the Detroit Red Wings for more than 20 years before becoming the general manager of the Edmonton Oilers last May.
