Mother and daughter score big lotto win in the Kootenays

A mother-daughter duo living in the Kootenays have scored big thanks to their evening tradition.

Myrna Bowen and her daughter Savannah Walker live in Greenwood, a town of 665 people which is about a 30-minute drive west of Grand Forks. They like to spend their evenings chatting together on the porch, and recently Walker decided to bring some scratch and win tickets from their local Canco gas station.

The pair scratched and used the BCLC app to determine they won the top prize on a Set For Life ticket.

“We started to cry and hug on the patio,” Bowen says in a media release.  “We always dreamed that one day we would win.”

The pair scored the top possible prize of $675,000.

Although the pair are originally from the northern B.C. town of Stewart, they recently moved to Greenwood — population 665 — and plan to set down roots.

“We’ve had our eye on a few properties in the area,” Bowen says in the release. “Now we can put an offer on the place we really wanted.”

As for Walker, she plans to use some money for a new car.
