Expect to see smoke near Penticton’s Channel Parkway

If you see smoke and flame by the Channel Parkway in Penticton, today, don't be worried.

The Penticton Indian Band Natural Resources is doing prescribed burning they say will "ensure the health and safety" of some important ecological habitat close to the River Channel Walkway.

This is being done through a prescribed burning plan north of the Green Mountain bridge, near the decommissioned railway bridge.

Staff and knowledge keepers are on-site to ensure it's being done well, though the public notice said there will likely be an abundance of smoke as the area has tall, dried grasses.
