Okanagan Mascot Games coming to Penticton’s events centre

Some big name mascots will be in the Okanagan this summer for the second annual Okanagan Mascot Games.

The event, which featuring mascots from major sports teams across the continent, will converge at Penticton's South Okanagan Events Centre for the games on July 25 and 26.

The mascots scheduled for the games include Vancouver Canucks' Fin, Carolina Hurricanes' Stormy, Allen Americans' Biscuit, Indy Elevens' Zeke along with mascots from Dallas Stars, Arizona Coyotes, Kelowna Rockets and Powell River Kings, according to a South Okanagan Events Centre media release. Between 24 and 32 mascots from as far away as Zurich, Switzerland, will also be a part of the competition.

The mascots compete in a variety of crazy and fun games with proceeds to benefit Beacons Furry Foundation Society and its primary fund.

The play hard, have fun concept means guaranteed fun for the family.

There is a community festival on the promenade leading up to the event including games, face painting and more.

Inside the events centre you’ll find the community zone with local non-profits, Beacons for Hope plush beavers fundraising for local food banks throughout the Thompson and Okanagan, along with meet and greet opportunities with the mascots, as well as the games.

The action takes place Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26, at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton with tickets on sale Friday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m.

Tickets are available by phone at 1-877-763-2849 or online at www.Valley First Tix.com.

Steve Arstad

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
