Penticton woman pleads guilty to manslaughter in death of teenager

A Penticton woman charged with manslaughter following the death of her 17-year-old boyfriend changed her plea to guilty in Penticton court this morning.

Kiera Bourque was charged with manslaughter following the suspicious death of the boy in April, 2017.

Bourque was 21 when she was arrested and charged with manslaughter on May 29, 2018, following a year-long investigation by Penticton RCMP.

She called 911 to report him in medical distress at a Penticton home, but B.C. Ambulance personnel found the boy unresponsive and could not revive him.

Bourque appeared in Penticton Supreme court this morning, Feb. 24, and changed her plea to guilty.

Justice Gary Weatherill accepted the guilty plea.

A pre-sentence report that will include a psychological component, was requested by defence lawyer Paul Varga and approved by Justice Weatherill.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 8.

I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
