Blazers GM Joe Cronin signs multiyear contract extension

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers have signed general manager Joe Cronin to a multiyear contract extension.

The Blazers did not announce the terms of the extension. Cronin has been GM of the team since 2022 after serving in the role on a interim basis.

“Joe has demonstrated leadership and vision during his time as General Manager, and I’m excited to see him continue building the foundation for a long-term, winning team,” Blazers chair Jody Allen said in a statement on Monday. “We are all thrilled with the team’s forward momentum and excited for the future of Trail Blazers basketball.”

Portland is 35-44 and will miss the playoffs for the fourth straight year, but the Blazers have defied expectations with a young team that includes Scoot Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe and Toumani Camara.

Portland had pushed for a play-in spot in the postseason but was eliminated on Sunday.

“My vision is to have a competitive roster with the potential for sustained success, while creating a culture that helps all our players, coaches and staff thrive. I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come,” Cronin said in a statement.
