Kelowna man caught on CCTV abusing his dog facing animal abuse charge
A Kelowna man is facing animal cruelty charges following an investigation by the BC SPCA.
Zachary Petropolis, who was born in 1996, is charged with causing unnecessary pain and suffering to his dog, according to a BC SPCA media release.
The SPCA received a number of calls to the organization’s animal helpline in December of 2023 about an incident in West Kelowna.
“We initiated an investigation and were able to recommend charges when we received disturbing CCTV footage showing him putting his dog in a chokehold, slamming the dog down onto the floor by the legs and then kicking the dog,” Eileen Drever with the SPCA said in the release.
The dog was seized by the SPCA and has been re-homed.
Petropolis has made his first court appearance and was released with conditions including he not have custody or control of any animal including fish.
