Police charge six teens after failed Toronto jewelry store robbery

TORONTO — Police have charged six teens in the attempted robbery of a Toronto jewelry store.

York Regional Police say a vehicle theft investigation on Friday led them to six suspects with ties to the stolen car that was found in Vaughan, Ont.

Police say officers tracked the car to a jewelry store, where five people were seen getting out of the car with sledgehammers and bags.

The suspects, who were wearing masks, tried to force their way into the jewelry store using the sledgehammers but couldn’t get in.

Police blocked the car in and after a brief foot chase, they arrested six teenagers.

Three 16-year-olds and three 17-year-olds each face multiple charges, including robbery with a weapon, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
