Kelowna’s surveillance cameras help catch break-in suspect

A man has been arrested after a downtown Kelowna business break-in and the city’s live surveillance cameras helped catch him.
Kelowna RCMP responded to a break and enter in the 1300-block of Ellis Street around 5 a.m. on March 4, according to a press release from police.
The male suspect had fled the scene by the time police arrived, but he was found nearby matching a description from the complainant.
“Live CCTV footage downtown from the City of Kelowna was also instrumental in assisting officers to locate and arrest this suspect quickly and without incident,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Michael Gauthier said in the release.
“This is another great example of the strong working relationship between the RCMP and the City of Kelowna to target and deter property crime.”
The 27-year-old had outstanding arrest warrants so he is still in custody with a court date March 10 in Kelowna.
