Former NHL player sued by City of Vernon over unpaid parking tickets

A former NHL hockey player who made millions of dollars during his career on the ice is being sued by the City of Vernon over unpaid parking tickets.
According to a Feb. 24 BC Small Claims Court filing, former Vancouver Canuck and Vernon Viper Aaron Volpatti owes the City of Vernon $650 in unpaid tickets dating back to November 2023.
Until increases in early 2024, it cost $1 an hour to park on downtown Vernon streets, and violation tickets are $15. If a ticket goes unpaid the price eventually jumps to $50.
The court document says that between November 2023 and January this year, Volpatti parked either his black Ford F-150 or his Toyota 4Runner on the streets of Vernon on 13 occasions without paying or returning to his vehicle on time.
The 39-year-old former pro hockey player started his career playing for the Vipers before making his NHL debut for the Vancouver Canucks in 2010.
According to his website, he now works as a keynote speaker and cognitive performance coach. His book, Fighter: Defying The NHL Odds was published in 2022.
Volpatti wasn’t immediately available for comment.
