RCMP looking for tips as Merritt homicide investigation hits two-year mark
Miguel Mack disappeared two years ago and his family and Merritt RCMP are still hoping someone comes forward with information to help with the homicide investigation.
Merritt RCMP received a report that Mack had not been seen since Feb. 27, 2023, according to a press release from police.
His disappearance was deemed suspicious and criminal a few weeks after he went missing, and major crime investigators were called in.
“There are people out there with knowledge of Miguel Mack’s disappearance and we are asking those individuals to come forward and contact the police,” Officer in Charge of the Southeast District Major Crime Unit Insp. Brent Novakoski said in the release.
Mack’s family is organizing a community walk at Coutlee Avenue and Orme Street with the tour going around Merritt to Spirit Square and ending at the Civic Centre starting at 4 p.m. on March 1.
“He’s left for a day or two before but nothing more,” Mack’s brother Elijah Mack-Stirling told iNFOnews.ca on March 7, 2023. “We started to panic by day five, typically he checks into social media or texts from a friend’s home to check in. This is day eight now of no communication.”
Police Dog Services, Air Services, Forensic Identification Specialists with drones, family members and volunteers have all searched for Mack, but he still hasn’t been found.
RCMP said the investigation is still a priority and police are still following leads and speaking with people in the community.
Anyone with information about Mack has been asked to contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit tip line at 1-877-987-8477.
