Second shooting in one month at the same home in Penticton

A “known problem property” had its second shooting in less than a month in Penticton this morning.

Penticton RCMP responded to a report about a shooting at a residence in the 400-block of Winnipeg Street around 9:56 a.m. on Feb. 10, according to a press release from police.

When officers arrived on the scene they confirmed that no one had been injured.

The shooting happened in broad daylight and it’s the second shooting at the same home that police refer to as a “known problem property”.

“This brazen disregard for public safety is deeply concerning,” Penticton RCMP Commander Supt. Beth McAndie said in the release. “Ensuring the safety of our community remains our detachment’s priority, and we’re asking for the public’s assistance in this investigation. If you saw anything suspicious or have any relevant information, please report it to the police.”

Police believe the shooting was a targeted incident and officers were at the scene earlier to gather evidence, speak to witnesses and work to identify suspects.

Since it’s the second shooting in less than a month, RCMP are going to continue monitoring activity associated with the home.

The newly-formed City of Penticton Public Safety Teams Property Standards Compliance Team is going to assist with dealing with this property.

The team is a multi-agency enforcement team that is meant to improve community safety by addressing properties like this one that have a negative effect on the rest of the community.

The team was just formed in January and it has members from the RCMP, fire department, bylaw and development services.

Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed any part of the incident, or who was driving by the area around the time and may have dash cam footage, to call Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300.
