Police investigating highway shooting in North Okanagan

RCMP are investigating a suspicious incident on Highway 97A in the North Okanagan  where police believe a car was shot at.

A silver SUV was driving on Highway 97A north of Greenhow Road in Spallumcheen north of Vernon when the people in the car noticed a dark SUV following them in the same direction, according to a press release from police.

Shortly after they noticed the dark SUV, the occupants in the silver SUV heard a loud bang as if something had been thrown at the vehicle.

When the silver SUV driver pulled over to check the damage the dark SUV pulled up and had a verbal interaction with the people in the silver car.

Another car pulled in behind the silver SUV but drove away without interacting with anyone and quickly drove northbound on Highway 97A. The dark SUV left without any further incident.

“It wasn’t until the silver SUV reached its destination when the driver finally had the opportunity to inspect the damage,” Cpl. Tania Finn said in the release. “At that time, a single hole was noted in the rear driver’s side which police believe is the result of a projectile from a firearm.”

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are still investigating the incident and are asking the people in the second vehicle that pulled in behind the silver SUV to contact police.

Police are also asking for dash camera footage travelling either direction on Highway 97A near Greenhow Road between 8:15 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 3.
