iN PHOTOS: Throwback pics of Princess Diana and Prince Charles in Kamloops during Expo 86

A Kamloops woman recently shared some nostalgic photos of the late Princess Diana and Prince Charles during a visit to the Tournament Capital more than 30 years ago.

Shelley Ford was going through old photos when she stumbled across photos from the May 3, 1986 visit.

Ford recalls going to Riverside Park and waiting with a large group of people for the royal couple’s arrival.

“I was just lucky enough to get some pictures close up,” Ford says.

She was in her 20s at the time the photos were taken.

“I remember them coming in and making a presentation and it was either close to (Princess Diana's) birthday or going to happen soon and everyone was saying ‘Happy Birthday,’” she says.

Ford says her mother was lucky enough to even shake hands with the Princess.

“The most impressive memory I have is pictures cannot do (Princess Diana) justice,” she says. “She is just so much more beautiful in person than any picture you might have seen.”

This wasn’t the only time the royal family visited B.C.'s southern interior. Everyone from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Queen Elizabeth have made appearances throughout various Okanagan cities.

The royal family has recently made headlines after news broke out about Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, announcing plans to step back from royal duties.

The surprising announcement sparked media outrage in the U.K.
