Paper licence plates tip off Kamloops cops to drug dealer

Kamloops RCMP found drugs in a car that had paper license plates yesterday.

Officers were in the Valleyview Plaza parking lot on an unrelated call when they noticed a strange license plate on a Chrysler 300 around 11:50 a.m. on Jan. 28, according to a press release from police.

When police investigated they found that the license plates were made of paper and tape. The vehicle hadn’t been reported stolen.

“A person was located in the backseat of the vehicle, but the alleged driver was nowhere to be found, nor was the registered owner,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “Inside the vehicle however, police found about 100 grams of what appeared to be methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with paraphernalia indicative of drug trafficking.”

The items found in the car were taken to be destroyed and the car was towed, RCMP said.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information, including dash camera or security footage, is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2025-2574.
