Area ski resorts firing on all cylinders this Christmas

The 'atmospheric river' that dumped record snowfall on mountain passes in Southern B.C. last week was also an early Christmas present for the Thompson and Okanagan valleys' ski resort operators.

Sun Peaks Resort is reporting nine out of 10 lifts open today with 23 cm of new snow between Dec. 18 and Dec. 21.

The resort has 128 of 135 pistes open, with a 116 cm base at the mountain top and 95 cm on the bottom.

No significant new snow is in the forecast.

Sun Peaks Resort is located 56 km northeast of Kamloops.

Silver Star Mountain Resort, located 22 km northeast of Vernon is reporting 121 cm of snow at the village and 152 cm in the alpine, with no organized weather systems forecast over the next few days.

Ten lifts are open today, Dec. 24, along with 128 alpine runs, 31 nordic trails, 15 snowshoe trails and 9  fat bike trails open.

Big White Ski Resort  reports a 141 cm alpine base with 83 runs and 15 lifts open.

The resort has had two cm of new snow in the past 24 hours and 52 cm over the past week.

There are isolated flurries in the forecast for today, with partly cloudy skies and highs of -5 Celsius to -8 C through Saturday.

Big White is located 56 km southeast of Kelowna.

Apex Mountain Resort is reporting a 107 cm alpine base with 56 of 80 trails open and all four lifts in operation.

The resort is reporting 12 cm of new snow in the past two days, and 44 cm in the past week.

Apex Mountain Resort is located 45 km west of Penticton.

Baldy Mountain Resort, located 35 km east of Osoyoos, is reporting 2 cm of new snow, with 12 cm in the past 24 hours and 32 cm over the past week.

The base at the top of the Eagle chair is 75 cm.
