Guns, fentanyl seized from man sleeping in truck in Kamloops

Kamloops RCMP seized more than a kilogram of fentanyl and several guns when officers spotted a man sleeping in a truck.
Officers were responding to an unrelated call in the 500-block of Columbia Street when they noticed a man sleeping in a running truck in a restaurant parking lot around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 20, according to a press release from police.
When police went to check on the driver they saw several weapons in clear view.
Officers investigated further and found more than 1.5 kg of fentanyl, 85 grams of cocaine, a loaded handgun, modified rifle, body armour on the man and ammunition.
“This kind of interaction illustrates the risks frontline officers continuously face while responding to what may seem like a routine traffic stop, check-well being, or suspicious occurrence report,” Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley said in the release.
“As part of this investigation, officers made a significant seizure of illegal drugs amounting to more than 1.5 kilograms of suspected fentanyl and 85 grams of cocaine, helping with the suppression and enforcement efforts toward drug traffickers who prey on those in our community.”
The driver was a man in his late 30s who was arrested and then released without process. The RCMP anticipates charge recommendations as a part of the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information about this incident has been asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2025-1789.
