Chicago police superintendent’s wife alleging discrimination

CHICAGO – The wife of Chicago’s police superintendent has filed a complaint alleging discrimination within the police department.

Lt. Nakia Fenner filed the complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The agency didn’t release details of the complaint, and Fenner declined comment Thursday.

Fenner married Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson last year. Johnson asked Chicago Inspector General Joseph Ferguson and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability to look into the matter.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi (goo-lee-EHL’-mee) confirms that the department received a complaint from Fenner that alleges discriminatory practices within the department’s promotional process. He says the department is committed to an independent and fair evaluation of the complaint.

EEOC spokesman Joseph Olivares says he’s “prohibited by law from confirming or denying the existence of a charge.”
