Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurance. Up 12 cents, or 0.55 per cent, to $21.89 on 14.6 million shares.

Rio Alto Mining Ltd. (TSX:RIO). Miner. Up 37 cents, or 11.28 per cent, to $3.65 on 10.5 million shares. Tahoe Resources Inc. (TSX:THO). Miner. Down $1.64, or 9.30 per cent, at $16, on 1.7 million shares, has made an all-stock takeover offer for Rio that values the company at $1.3 billion based on Friday’s closing share prices for both.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace and transportation. Down eight cents, or 2.73 per cent, to $2.85 on 8.4 million shares.

Canadian Oil Sands Ltd. (TSX:COS). Oil and gas. Up $1.08, or 10.32 per cent, to $11.55 on eight million shares.

Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TSX:PWT). Oil and gas. Up 34 cents, or 11.41 per cent, to $3.32 on 7.4 million shares.

First Nickel Inc. (TSX:FNI). Miner. Unchanged at one cent on six million shares.

Cineplex Inc. (TSX:CGX). Entertainment. Up one cent, or 0.02 per cent, to $45.73 on 77,993 shares. The Canadian movie theatre company is launching a special screening program for people with autism spectrum disorder and their families.
