Lumby duplex fire displaces two seniors

LUMBY – A Sunday afternoon duplex fire has forced two Lumby seniors from their home.

Tony Clayton, Lumby and District Fire Department Chief, said that nine Lumby firefighters assisted by a small Lavington Fire Department crew were able to extinguish the Shuswap Avenue house fire quickly Sunday, Sept. 29.

“There’s smoke damage throughout the duplex. It was contained to the one unit,” Clayton said. “It’s not a total loss. It’s just the smoke damage, but it is extensive.”

Clayton confirmed that the two seniors are not staying in their home as a result of the damage. They were home at the time of the fire.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the fire.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
