Entertainment One partners with Mark Gordon to form independent L.A.-based studio

TORONTO – Entertainment One is forming a partnership with The Mark Gordon Co. that will create an independent studio to finance and produce film, network, cable and digital content.

Mark Gordon will be chief executive of the L.A.-based studio, which will finance projects by other producers as well.

Entertainment One, or eOne, is one of the world’s largest independent film distributors and it has an extensive library of film and TV titles including the AMC series “Hell on Wheels” and “The Walking Dead.”

The London-based multinational entertainment company bought Canada’s largest film distributor, Alliance Films, in 2012.

Mark Gordon is a prolific television producer whose TV hits include “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Criminal Minds,” and “Ray Donovan,” and whose film productions include “Speed,” “The Day After Tomorrow” and “Saving Private Ryan.”

The Mark Gordon Company will complete its tenure with ABC studios and continue to develop and produce film content across all genres, including the production of studio films. eOne’s US Television business will continue to develop, finance and produce scripted and alternative programming independently of The Mark Gordon Company.

eOne said it also plans to leverage its digital expertise to enhance the interactive potential of the content produced by the studio.
