Mom of murdered teen Stefanie Rengel begs NBC to stop TV segment on killing

TORONTO – The mother of a murdered teenager is calling on the media to respect her family’s privacy despite her very public campaign to stop an American TV segment on her daughter’s killing.
Patricia Hung — mother of 14-year-old Stefanie Rengel — is refusing to discuss her request to NBC, saying she is “disappointed” the story has become public.
In blog and Facebook postings, Hung pleads against production of the segment about Stefanie’s murder for an E! Entertainment special.
Stefanie 14, was stabbed to death outside their east-end Toronto home on New Year’s Day 2008 in a shockingly senseless act that put two other teens behind bars for life.
In her blog, Hung says production of the segment cheapens Stefanie’s life.
She now says the family is trying to minimize the amount of media attention to the story to protect their children from further re-victimization.
