Best interest of child to remove her from life support: Edmonton judge

EDMONTON – An Edmonton judge is siding with doctors about the fate of a two-year-old child who is in a coma after alleged abused by her parents.

The judge says she agrees with physicians that it is in the best interest of the girl to remove her from life support and put her in palliative care.

Paramedics found the girl and her twin sister in a home May 25 — both were malnourished and suffering from injuries.

Their parents have been charged with aggravated assault, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and failing to provide the necessities of life.

Their names cannot be released to protect the identities of the children.

Lawyers for the parents are already asking for a stay of the judge’s ruling until they can appeal her decision.
