Oregon man gets 4 plus years in Iraq contract-steering case
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A former State Department employee has been sentenced to more than four years in prison for helping to steer $2 million in government contracts to a company half-owned by his son.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia announced Friday that 65-year-old Kenneth Apple of Beaverton, Oregon, was sentenced to 50 months in prison and ordered to pay about $1.9 million in restitution.
Prosecutors say Kenneth Apple also provided non-public information to his son Jonathan Apple, enabling him to win the contracts for micro-dairies to be used in Iraq.
Apple’s listed attorney didn’t immediately return a telephone message seeking comment Friday.
